RUN
In an open space like Phi Beta Kappa Commons, hiding is not an option. Immediately run the opposite direction of the perceived threat using large structures, like this pot, as cover from stray bullets and ricochets. Take several moments behind each structure to wait for the opportune moment — when the gunman is reloading or is distracted — to run to the next structure.
RUN
Running into a building is certainly an option if an active shooting begins in Phi Beta Kappa Commons. Once you’ve made it to a building — do not stop, immediately look for another exit leading away from the threat. Do not lock the doors of the building you enter to prevent endangering other people fleeing the gunman. Continue to put as much distance between you and the gunman as possible.
RUN
If you are forced to run down the center of the Academic Pavilion lawn, run from tree to tree and wait for the opportune moment to make the next dash — when the gunman is reloading or is distracted. When running between trees, run in zig-zag — do not run in a straight line to avoid becoming a stationary target.
FIGHT
If the gunman draws their weapons in the center of Phi Beta Kappa Commons, fighting is only an option for those nearest to the gunman. Assuming that there are no makeshift weapons within a reachable distance, neutralize the firearm as quickly as possible. Keep the barrel of the gun pointed away from you or fleeing individuals at all costs. Attempt to attack other weak spots, such as the throat and groin.
