Louis DeJoy's journey to postmaster general

Many people know him as postmaster general. Some know him as a successful businessman or the former CEO of New Breed Logistics. But members of the Elon community know Louis DeJoy as one of the benefactors for Odyssey scholarships, and as a member of the Elon University Board of Trustees since 2007.

DeJoy was unanimously selected by the Post Office’s Board of Governors to serve as the CEO of the largest postal organization in the world according to a press release. DeJoy will become the 75th Postmaster General on June 15. He replaces Megan Brennan who announced her intentions to step down in October 2019.

Before faculty members voted on the motion asking Postmaster General and Elon University Board of Trustees member Louis DeJoy to commit to improving the service provided by the United States Postal Service and absolve his personal conflict of interests or step down as trustee to the university, professor of biology Dave Gammon gave a speech against the motion. To Gammon, the situation with DeJoy is multifaceted, and he said the proposal was a “very one-sided view” of a complex issue.

Elon SGA legislation denounces Louis DeJoy, puts pressure on Board of Trustees

The Student Government Association passed legislation last night at their weekly business meeting that condemns the actions of Elon Board of Trustees member and Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, and requests that the board discuss his membership.Upon the passage of the bill, the Speaker of the Senate and Executive Vice President Jonathan Stettler is instructed to communicate the resolution to all members of the Board of Trustees, and request a transparent discussion on DeJoy’s place on the board that should be communicated with the Elon community, according to the legislation.
